Requirements:
Swim1,000 meters breaststroke and 500 meters backstroke.
Float with a life jacket and clothes: Jumpinto the water from a height of 1 meter while wearing clothes and a life jacket, then float for 5 minutes in a still, curled-up position.
Tread water for7 minutes or 175 meters.
Lifesaving: Throwa lifebuoy at least 5 meters and pull in a person of similar size, 2 times. Jump from the edge or a dock with a lifebuoy and then swim 50 meters with the lifebuoy, followed by retrieving a lifesaving dummy or person from a depth of 2 meters, followed by towing a person of similar size in a lifebuoy for 50 meters. Retrieve a person from the pool edge or dock. Be able to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, follow emergency procedures, place a person in the recovery position, and demonstrate knowledge of swimming, boating, ice, and weather safety.
Why this is required:
Basic skills with an in-depth focus on swimming and water rescue.
How to perform it:
The skills are performed in deep water. The option to tread water means that the candidate may choose to move around or remain stationary.
All components are performed without flotation devices, goggles, nose clips, or other aids unless otherwise specified.
Once you have successfully completed these swimming, lifesaving, and theory components, you can feel confident that you would be able to intervene in an emergency in or near the water.
